Public Domain Profits
Think for a moment about how you most often come across a particular website for the first time. You don’t normally just type in the address, do you? Most times, you’ll perform a web search for a particular topic. The most appealing of the results you receive will be the website you visit. In light of this, when creating your website, you will need to make sure that your data source is a popular enough subject that it is searched for by many people, but not so popular that there are tons of websites out there already dedicated to it, making it impossible to compete. How do you do this? You can find out how popular your data source website idea is by visiting http://inventory.overture.com . Just type in a few keywords most commonly associated with your topic and see what comes up. How many people have searched for it? Who’s in the lead? Answers to these preliminary questions can save you a lot of time in the long run. You may even find that starting a website on the particular topic you first had in mind isn’t worth your time or minor investment. Better to find out beforehand what your chances for success in this particular subject is, than after you’ve invested your time and talent. Just about any information can be organized to work for your website content; what you need to consider most is how you plan to compartmentalize and display this information. A gigantic list of whatever information you’ve gathered is probably not your best bet- a long list isn’t something most people are interested in reading through. Convenience is key, and you will need to decide how to break down the data you’ve collected into categories. How these categories can be searched is another decision you will have to make. Will a person be able to browse alphabetically, or by subject, or by key words? However you decide to organize the data on your website, you need to ensure that the organizational methods you’ve chosen are convenient and make sense to your visitors. We all have our own little ways of organizing things: for instance, the stack of papers on your desk may look unorganized to someone else, but you know exactly where everything is because it makes sense to you. And while this personal organizational style might work for you, it might not be so effective for others. They might find it confusing, or overwhelming, which would impact your efforts in trying to make a profit online. Ask a few close friends to peruse your site for its ease of navigation, presentation, convenience, clarity and organization. Using data that is freely available on the internet is a great way to generate content for a membership website, a Google Adsense website or just as a portal to direct traffic to other websites you may have in the same Niche! |
